City of Beeville Enters Drought Contingency Plan Stage 3 - Critical Water Shortage Conditions

    For Immediate Release

Beeville, TX – December 13, 2024 – The City of Beeville has officially entered Stage 3 of its Critical Water Shortage Conditions within the Beeville Drought Contingency Plan, following a significant decrease in the combined lake levels of Choke Canyon Lake and Lake Corpus Christi, which have dropped below 20%. During Stage 3, the City needs to achieve a 30% or greater reduction in daily treated water demand relative to treated water demand with water use restrictions below. This decision is in response to the ongoing drought and the immediate need to conserve the city's water resources.

    Stage 3 Water Restrictions Implemented

Stage 3 water restrictions, as outlined in the City of Beeville's Drought Contingency Plan (DCP), apply to all city water customers, including residential, multi-family, commercial, and industrial users. The restrictions are necessary to ensure that the city can continue to meet the water needs of its residents while preserving available supplies.

Key Restrictions Under Stage 3: All elements of Stage 1 & 2 shall remain in effect in Stage 3 except as modified below:

    • Irrigation w/Sprinklers (Hose-end or Automatic) – No outside watering allowed.
    • Drip Irrigation or Soaker Hose- No outside watering allowed.
    • Hand Watering (Bucket or Hand-Held Hose)- No outside watering allowed.
    • Swimming and Wading Pools/Jacuzzi-type pools and water parks–Refilling of existing and new pools are allowed.
    • At home car wash- No washing a car at home.
    • Decorative Water Features – All fountains shall operate ONLY to maintain equipment.
    • Washing impervious surfaces – Prohibited unless for health and safety.
    • Foundation watering (drip, soaker hose, or hand method only) – Allowed on Stage 2 watering days which is once every other week on your trash pickup day. You must use a 5-gallon bucket or smaller, a hand-held hose with a shut-off nozzle, or a drip irrigation system.
    • Water wells - Irrigation with water wells or aerobic septic systems is exempt from water restriction.

    Termination of Stage 3 Restrictions

Stage 3 restrictions will stay in effect until the combined water levels of Choke Canyon Lake and Lake Corpus Christi reach or exceed 20%. Once this threshold is reached, Stage 3 restrictions will be lifted, and Stage 1 & 2 will become operative.

    Ongoing Commitment

The City of Beeville would like to express its gratitude to residents for their efforts in conserving water so far. However, as we enter Stage 3 of the drought contingency restrictions, we will need even more assistance from the community.

City officials are closely monitoring water levels and will continue to implement necessary measures to safeguard water resources and ensure the continued delivery of essential services.
