Salary range: $30,068 - $42,095

Hours: Regular / Full-Time / Non-Exempt

Start date: Pending the results of an inteview and pre-employment drug screen.

Job Description:

This position performs unskilled or semi-skilled tasks as required by the Crew Foreman.

Essential Functions:

- Repair water and sewer lines, make water and sewer taps, and lay pipes.
- Lay new or replacement utility lines.
- Perform miscellaneous hand work with a shovel, rake, etc.
- Conduct concrete work.
- Serve on the standby crew.
- Mow and perform weed-eating tasks.

Basic Functions:

- Perform minor repairs to equipment and fences.
- Other duties as assigned.

Essential Work Habit:

- Regular and consistent attendance in a workplace environment.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Ability to handle basic routine problems and report other needs or findings to the foreman.
- Expected to carry out orders and follow instructions given by the foreman or other responsible persons.

Types of Equipment Used:

- Power tools, hand tools, air tools, and compressor.
- Pneumatic hand tamping tool.
- City trucks.

Requirement:

- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and nights as necessary.

Expectations:

- Obtain the Water “D” License within the first year of employment.
- Obtain the Water “C” License and Wastewater Operations “C” License within the third year of employment.
- Maintain the Water “C” and Wastewater Operations “C” Licenses and ensure you acquire the required 30 CEUs prior to renewal.
- Failure to receive and maintain the Water and Wastewater “C” licenses will result in termination of employment with the city.

Minimum Requirements for Employment:

Education, Experience, and Certification:

- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid TX Driver’s License Class “B”.
- Ability to obtain TCEQ Grade “D” water distribution within the first year of employment.
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills necessary to perform tasks related to measuring items and associated tasks.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background investigation.
- CDL drivers are subject to random drug screens.

Physical Requirements:

- Working conditions are primarily outside with frequent exposure to inclement weather and noise from machinery. Standing, walking, bending, and working in traffic areas are required to perform job duties.
- Ability to move about an office or building and transport oneself between buildings and to various functions and meetings at other sites within or outside the city.
- Sufficient manual dexterity to operate a computer, telephone, and related equipment.
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing to communicate effectively.
- Sufficient vision to review a wide variety of materials in electronic or hardcopy form.
- Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to function within the general office environment, including standing, walking, sitting, lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, and bending.
