Start date: Pending the results of an interview and drug screen.

Job Description:

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for answering emergency and non-emergency calls and dispatching appropriate personnel. The role requires multitasking in a fast-paced work environment.

Essential Functions:

- Dispatch Police, Fire, Ambulance, and 9-1-1 Emergency calls.
- Complete regular and special reports, maintaining files, logs, and records.
- Monitor public service radio frequencies, keeping track of field personnel and relaying accurate information to field units.
- Dispatch units as needed, monitor alarms, log 9-1-1 calls, and maintain computer entries.
- Maintain logs of alarm calls, update key holder names and numbers, and handle pawn tickets within city limits.
- Dispatch for BISD Police, CBC Police, Animal Control, Water Department, Street Department, and Bee County Sheriff’s office.
- Dispatch wreckers from a rotating on-call list and contact on-call JPs, CID, and K9 units as needed.
- Notify relevant parties (e.g., AEP, CenterPoint, Time Warner, TXDOT) for power outages.
- Collect after-hours payments for Municipal Court warrants and trace 911 phone calls.
- Issue and manage alarm permits, bill for alarm permits and excessive calls, and contact wrecker companies for late payments.
- File criminal trespasses and maintain related logs.
- Use PSAP radio, TTY machine, email, fax, phone landline, and 911 systems.
- Inspect equipment for proper operation and report malfunctions.
- Perform daily tests on PSAP, 911 phones, and TDD TTY systems, and submit paperwork monthly.
- Complete and submit monthly Uniform Crime Reporting Reports to the state.
- Maintain handwritten funeral logs and assist with water department calls.
- Reset computers and radio equipment after power outages.
- Serve as essential personnel/first responder in emergencies or disasters.
- Complete required training.

Basic Functions:

- Act as secretary to all PD personnel and interact with the public at the PD lobby or by phone.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Work Habit:

- Regular attendance in a workplace environment.
- Alternating shifts.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Knowledge of radio and telecommunications equipment (e.g., Police Radio, Computer, Teletype, Copy Machine).
- Skill in making decisions in high-pressure and emergency situations.
- Skill in planning, organizing, analyzing, decision-making, and problem-solving.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.

Complexity/Scope of Work:

- The work involves emergency communication duties, responding to unforeseen and emergency situations, adding complexity to the role.

Minimum Requirements for Employment:

- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid TX Driver’s License or alternative transportation.
- Ability to obtain NCIC/TCIC, TLETS/NLETS, and TCOLE Basic Telecommunicator certifications.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

Physical Requirements:

- Work primarily outdoors with exposure to inclement weather.
- Ability to move about an office or building and attend various functions and meetings.
- Manual dexterity to operate a computer, telephone, and related equipment.
- Clarity of speech and hearing to communicate effectively.
- Vision to review materials in electronic or hardcopy form.
- Personal mobility and physical reflexes to function within a general office environment.
